Building the next generation of African innovators through STEM education
Pi and Beads was founded in 2018 by Dr. Amina Diallo, a computer science educator who saw the need for accessible STEM education for African children. What began as a small after-school program in Lagos has grown into a pan-African initiative reaching thousands of students across 8 countries.
"I wanted to create a program that would bridge the gap between traditional African education and the skills needed for the digital age," says Dr. Diallo. "By combining the cognitive benefits of abacus training with modern coding and robotics, we're creating a unique learning experience."

What makes our approach different
Our abacus program isn't just about math - it's designed to enhance memory, concentration, and processing speed that benefits all areas of learning.
We adapt our curriculum to reflect African realities, using examples and projects relevant to our students' lives and communities.
We work with local communities to establish sustainable programs, training local instructors and using locally available materials where possible.
Our students show measurable improvement in math scores (average +35%), logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving abilities.
